DO YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONTRACTING ACCREDITED AND NON-ACCREDITED LABORATORIES?
The term laboratory is generally associated to organisations with a high technical and scientific level equipped with advanced technical resources and highly qualified personnel.... although unfortunately this is not always necessarily the case.
In truth, included among the companies that provide testing or calibration services are those that have proven that this general idea of a laboratory is true and others that have not. The former are ENAC accredited. The latter are not.
Therefore, when a company seeks to contract testing or calibration services, if it wants the utmost guarantee of technical competence without running any risks, it should choose an accredited laboratory. This type of laboratory has proven that it has the necessary technical solvency whereas, in the case of non-accredited laboratories, companies only have the word of the laboratory itself to fall back on..
Because, in actual fact, what does it know about the laboratory it is contracting?
The laboratory has proven that...
It has skilled personnel
It has the necessary equipment and facilities
The equipment is calibrated and appropriately maintained
The tests or calibrations are performed using technically valid methods and procedures
The methods and procedures are implemented with the necessary expertise, in line with best technical practice
The activity is subject to strict quality control
All this has been proven to ENAC, the only appointed authority in Spain to perform this type of assessment(1), which has evaluated them by way of a strict auditing process involving technical experts in each accredited technique, in line with established and internationally recognised criteria.
None of this is guaranteed if you choose a non-accredited laboratory.
All laboratories offer the market the same services that sometimes involve critical aspects for the party requesting the tests and that might affect the safety of products and people. Therefore, making decisions as to the tests performed by laboratories that have not proven their competence could lead to consequences for the company.
Only if you use accredited laboratories will you benefit from the advantages offered by ENAC accreditation.
